Berthoud Considers Public-Private Partnership for Broadband Infrastructure

Access to fast and reliable broadband has become a necessity for many people, especially with the rise of hybrid work arrangements and increased remote working. The Town of Berthoud is now exploring a potential public-private partnership with a broadband provider to install fiber optic cables across the town. The Board of Trustees has approved a request for qualifications to investigate this option.

Berthoud-based Hilltop Broadband is one of the local options being considered for the partnership. The company, founded by Eric Ryplewski, has already installed fiber optic cables at over 15% of residences in Berthoud and has been successful in providing broadband services to rural areas where larger providers have neglected to invest. Ryplewski, now the CEO of Hilltop Broadband, emphasizes the importance of customer service and taking a customer-first approach.

In addition to Berthoud, Hilltop Broadband has expanded its services to other areas such as Greeley, Timnath, Longmont, and downtown Denver. The company has also signed a public-private partnership with Custer County to install fiber optic cables in Silver Cliff and Westcliffe.

If Hilltop Broadband is awarded the contract for Berthoud, Ryplewski expects to hire additional in-house employees during the construction phase, followed by more employees for network maintenance and customer support.

The benefits of partnering with a local broadband company like Hilltop Broadband include personalized customer service and a strong community presence. The company prioritizes the needs of its customers and has seen significant growth over its ten years in operation.

By exploring this public-private partnership, the Town of Berthoud aims to provide its residents with excellent broadband infrastructure to support their work and daily activities.
