Apple Event: Potential New Macs and iPad Revealed in Regulatory Database

Ahead of Apple’s highly anticipated “Scary Fast” event, a regulatory database has potentially unveiled some of the new products that will be announced. The filings suggest that we may see new Macs and, surprisingly, even a new iPad.

According to information discovered by MacRumors, two Apple suppliers recently resubmitted filings to a Chinese regulatory database for batteries used in current Apple products. The filings included batteries for the latest 14-inch MacBook Pro, 16-inch MacBook Pro, Magic Keyboard for the Mac, and iPad mini. The interesting aspect is that these batteries were resubmitted with October 2023 issue dates.

While the battery capacities listed in the new filings are the same as the original ones, indicating no changes in battery capacity, it’s still possible for the new products to have longer battery life, thanks to improved chip power efficiency.

Resubmitted battery filings have previously hinted at new products. Just before the launch of the Apple Watch Series 9, for instance, MacRumors discovered that the batteries of the Apple Watch Series 8 were resubmitted to the same regulatory database. Ultimately, these batteries were reused in the Series 9 models.

The filings also suggest some updates to Apple’s lineup. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the 24-inch iMac will receive an update with the M3 chip. The Magic Keyboard, Magic Mouse, and Magic Trackpad accessories for the Mac are expected to be updated with USB-C charging ports instead of Lightning. Additionally, Gurman predicts the arrival of updated 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models with M3 Pro and M3 Max chips.

One intriguing inclusion in the filings is a battery for the sixth-generation iPad mini. This could potentially be reused in the seventh-generation iPad mini. However, it is important to note that Gurman and Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo do not expect new iPads to be released until 2024 or before the end of this year.

It’s worth mentioning that Apple recently announced a lower-cost Apple Pencil with a USB-C port, dispelling earlier rumors of new iPads. This new Apple Pencil is set to launch in early November, possibly around the same time as the new products announced at tomorrow’s event.

In conclusion, based on the regulatory findings, it aligns with expectations of updated 14-inch MacBook Pro, 16-inch MacBook Pro, and 24-inch iMac models being unveiled during the Apple event. As for a new iPad mini, it would indeed be surprising if one is unveiled, considering the predictions of Gurman and Kuo. All will be revealed within the next 24 hours.
