Airbus Wins U.K. Ministry of Defence Contract for SKYNET Communications System Support

Airbus has announced that it has been awarded a contract by the U.K. Ministry of Defence to provide support for the SKYNET military satellite communications system. The contract will involve the provision of post-design services to the ministry and future service providers, aiding in the transition from SKYNET 5 to SKYNET 6, including the development of SKYNET 6A.

The contract is set to commence in March and will have a duration of five years. While the financial details of the contract have not been disclosed by Airbus, the contract is expected to bolster the company’s position as a key supplier to the U.K. Ministry of Defence.

The SKYNET communications system plays a vital role in providing secure and reliable communication capabilities to the U.K. armed forces, enabling them to effectively and efficiently communicate with each other, as well as with allied forces and other stakeholders.

Airbus’ involvement in the project will ensure the smooth transition from the current SKYNET 5 system to the advanced SKYNET 6 system, which is currently being developed. With its proven expertise in satellite communications systems, Airbus is well-positioned to provide the necessary support and services to meet the U.K. Ministry of Defence’s requirements.

This contract win further solidifies Airbus’ reputation as a trusted and reliable partner for military communications systems, with a track record of delivering successful projects for defense organizations worldwide. As the contract period spans five years, Airbus will have the opportunity to demonstrate its commitment to delivering quality services and support throughout the duration of the project.
