Aussie Broadband Pty Ltd is a privately owned and operated telecommunications carrier based in regional Victoria. The company operates one of regional Australia's largest wireless networks, providing not only fixed wireless but ADSL1, ADSL2+ and mobile broadband services. They also specialise in providing corporate solutions and private networks. Aussie's wireless tower network includes sites which are all interconnected using licensed microwave technology in redundant loops. Customers are connected via Point to Multipoint wireless systems which provide high quality, (QOS) enabled networks. Aussie Broadband’s IP network extends from Bairnsdale in East Gippsland through to Mt Gambier in South Australia, with extensive coverage in Western Victoria. Aussie Broadband also has points of presence in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane. Our strength and success is attributable to our understanding of regional and rural needs and our personal commitment to provide a quality service to our customers. Aussie Broadband, through its subsidiaries Wideband Networks & Westvic broadband, was one of the first companies to be granted registration into the HiBIS, and later broadband connect programs, by the Department of Broadband, Communications & The Digital Economy to provide subsidised wireless services in Gippsland and Western Victoria. In September 2007, Westvic & Wideband were approved to provide Australian Broadband Guarantee Satellite services to regional and rural Victoria. July 2008 saw Wideband Networks merge with Westvic Broadband to create Aussie Broadband. The two businesses were very similar, and covered different geographic regions. In August 2008, Aussie Broadband was again approved to provide subsidised Satellite and wireless services under the Australian Broadband Guarantee program.

Description

The NBN is Australia's first national wholesale-only, open access communications network that is being built to bring high speed broadband and telephone services within the reach of all Australian premises. The NBN will utilise three technologies; fibre, fixed wireless and satellite, changing the way we all connect. When connected on a service with (for example) a 100 Mbps interface speed, you should not expect that everything that you download from the Internet will be received by you at 100 Mbps! Important external factors affecting the actual speed include the capacity of, load on, and access data rate of: The destination host computer which you are accessing The global Internet links between Aussie Broadband and the destination host computer; and The backhaul network connecting your community to Aussie Broadband In addition, local technical factors affecting performance include: The hardware that you use to terminate your NBN Fibre Broadband connection; for example the capability of your Ethernet router to firewall and address translate at these speeds; The performance of your home network; for example NBN Fibre Broadband line speed may be beyond the speeds achievable with wireless home networks; and The limitations imposed by the hardware, software and protocol stack operating in your PC. The theoretical maximum access speeds for Aussie Broadband NBN Fibre Broadband plans are: 12Mbps / 1Mbps - which means that the theoretical peak download speed (from the Internet) is 12 Megabits per second, and the theoretical peak upload speed (to the Internet) is 1 Megabit per second. This is the basic service, compared to an average ADSL2+ connection. 25Mbps / 5Mbps - which means that the theoretical peak download speed (from the Internet) is 25 Megabits per second, and the theoretical peak upload speed (to the Internet) is 5 Megabits per second. This is ideal for most home applications. 50Mbps / 20Mbps - which means that the theoretical peak download speed (from the Internet) is 50 Megabits per second, and the theoretical peak upload speed (to the Internet) is 20 Megabits per second. This may deliver a better outcome if there are multiple online users at your house. 100Mbps / 40Mbps - which means that the theoretical peak download speed (from the Internet) is 100 Megabits per second, and the theoretical peak upload speed (to the Internet) is 40 Megabits per second. This is a professional grade service, and you'll need a professional grade router to get the full benefit from it.
