Tolou-3: Iran Unveils Heaviest Imaging Satellite

Iran Electronics Industries recently unveiled the Tolou-3 satellite, an imaging satellite commissioned by the Iranian Space Agency (ISA). The unveiling took place in Tehran during the country’s National Day of Space celebration. With a weight of 150 kilograms, Tolou-3 is considered the heaviest satellite ever manufactured in Iran.

Tolou-3 is equipped with advanced technology that enables it to capture black and white images with a spatial resolution of five meters. It also possesses color mode capabilities with a resolution of 10 meters. The satellite relies heavily on equipment and tools produced by Iranian knowledge-based companies.

Once launched, Tolou-3 is anticipated to orbit at a distance of 500 kilometers above the Earth’s surface. This will provide comprehensive coverage and valuable data for various applications.

This is not Iran’s first venture into satellite technology. The country successfully launched its first satellite, Omid (Hope), in 2009, followed by the Rasad (Observation) satellite in 2011. In 2012, Iran achieved another milestone with the successful placement of its domestically-made satellite, Navid (Promise), into orbit.

Iran has also made significant progress in the field of military satellites. In April 2020, the country announced the successful launch of its first military satellite. This was followed by the launch of a second military satellite in March 2022, further demonstrating Iran’s growing capabilities in space technology.

The introduction of Tolou-3 adds to Iran’s increasing expertise in satellite manufacturing and imaging capabilities. It marks another milestone in the country’s space program and highlights its commitment to technological advancements and scientific exploration.
