The Ministry of Communications and Digital Addresses Usage of Satellite Internet Services

The Ministry of Communications and Digital (KKD) has emphasized that the utilization of satellite internet services like Starlink is not a commercial decision but rather a temporary solution for areas with inadequate internet access. Minister Fahmi Fadzil stated that long-term strategies are being implemented to address this issue.

Fahmi explained that Starlink is an ideal interim solution due to its plug-and-play capabilities and fast internet speed, all at a reasonable price. He noted that besides Starlink, there are three other satellite internet service providers, and their usage also does not stem from commercial motives.

The Minister emphasized that the advantages of this technology are well-suited for the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) in fulfilling its purpose. Consequently, the government is planning to expand satellite internet technology to schools and health clinics in Sabah and Sarawak.
