The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has assured subscribers that telecom operator Mafab Communications, licensed for 5G services, has launched in the market. However, as of Monday, Mafab Communications has not made any products or services available.
On August 2, the NCC issued a statement defending Mafab Communications against claims that the operator had not rolled out its 5G service, despite holding a license for nearly two years. The commission claimed that Mafab had publicly launched its services in Abuja on January 24, 2023, and in Lagos on January 26. Initially, the services were targeted at six cities including Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Enugu, Kano, and Kaduna.
However, it has been confirmed that since the launch, Mafab Communications has not made any commercial 5G products available in the market. The company’s website remains unchanged and does not provide any information about their products, tariffs, device compatibility, or data packages. There is also no information available on where to purchase Mafab’s data plans.
Attempts to contact the chairman of Mafab Communications, Mushabu Muhammadu Bashir, for a comment on the situation have been unsuccessful. The lack of communication and the absence of a live 5G service have raised doubts among consumers and social media users.
It is evident that Mafab Communications has failed to deliver on its promise to launch a 5G network, despite holding a valid license for a considerable amount of time. The NCC’s defense of the company raises questions about their own awareness of any progress made by Mafab. As consumers eagerly wait for Mafab to provide a tangible product or service, concerns and uncertainties regarding the company’s legitimacy persist.
