Spire Global Awarded Space Services Contract by GHGSat for Greenhouse Gas Monitoring

Spire Global, Inc. (NYSE: SPIR), a leading provider of space-based data, analytics, and space services, has been awarded a Space Services contract by GHGSat, the global leader in high-resolution greenhouse gas monitoring from space. Under the agreement, Spire will develop, launch, and operate four additional 16U satellites carrying GHGSat payloads to monitor greenhouse gas emissions. This expansion follows Spire’s initial agreement with GHGSat for three 16U satellites set to launch by the end of 2023.

Spire Space Services, with a total addressable market of billion, offers organizations the opportunity to leverage Spire’s existing infrastructure to establish their presence in space and rapidly scale their satellite constellations. Spire’s capabilities in development, manufacturing, launch, and operations facilitate swift deployment and efficient operations.

The Space Services model, known as “Space as a Service,” empowers companies like GHGSat to focus on their mission and services, while Spire takes care of deploying their payloads into space safely, quickly, and cost-effectively. This collaborative approach supports the rapid growth of Spire’s customers.

Climate change poses a significant threat to human well-being and the health of the planet, according to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. Addressing greenhouse gas emissions is crucial for a livable and sustainable future. Having accurate data about emissions sources enables governments and industries to take effective action towards reducing emissions and achieving net-zero goals.

Spire’s partnership with GHGSat will enhance global emissions monitoring and measurement capabilities. The new satellites will collect data to monitor emissions from industries such as oil and gas, coal mining, waste management, and agriculture. GHGSat is well-regarded for providing the world’s best emissions intelligence.

The launch of the four 16U satellites is scheduled for no earlier than 2024.
