Smart Smoke Detector Saves Pets and Home in House Fire

A couple in Shelby County, Tennessee, credits a smart smoke detector for alerting them to a fire that broke out in their home during the work day. The fire started around 2:15 p.m. on Tuesday due to a malfunctioning heat lamp in the pet turtle’s tank.

As soon as the smoke alarms went off, the woman received an alert on her phone and immediately called 911. Although she was about 30 minutes away, the Shelby County Firefighters arrived within minutes. By the time she reached home, all the pets, including three dogs, a turtle, and a mouse, were safely rescued and the fire was extinguished.

Fortunately, the fire was isolated to the turtle aquarium, but the couple’s home suffered smoke and water damage. The woman expressed her gratitude towards the firefighters for their quick response and for rescuing her beloved pets. She believes that her Google Nest smoke detectors played a crucial role in saving her pets and home.

While the incident highlights the importance of having security measures like cameras, the woman emphasized that a house fire can be equally devastating. She also mentioned that her turtle managed to move to the other side of the tank during the fire and was unharmed.

The couple’s experience serves as a reminder of the benefits of smart smoke detectors, which can send instant alerts to mobile devices. Such technology can provide early detection of fires and potentially save lives and properties.
