Satellite Images Reveal Flood Damage in Riverside County, California

Satellite images taken on Monday, August 21, depict the extent of flood damage caused by Storm Hilary in Riverside County, California. The region experienced record rainfall, resulting in flooded roadways and full riverbeds in Palm Springs, Rancho Mirage, Cathedral City, and Thousand Palms.

According to satellite imaging company Maxar, the storm delivered over four inches of rain to the typically arid area, overwhelming the region on Sunday. In response to the devastation, county officials declared a state of emergency due to the flood damage.

Interestingly, Storm Hilary initially formed as a hurricane but later triggered Southern California’s first-ever tropical storm warning, as confirmed by officials.

The satellite imagery portrays the aftermath of the torrential rainfall, allowing experts to assess the extent of the flooding and plan necessary relief efforts.
