Samsung to Introduce Satellite Connectivity for Emergency Services in Galaxy S24

Samsung has confirmed that it will introduce a new feature called “satellite connectivity for emergency services” in its upcoming Galaxy S24 series. The announcement was made by Samsung’s System LSI division CEO Park Yong.

Earlier this year, Samsung had revealed that it had developed a technology to enable two-way satellite connectivity for smartphones. It is highly possible that Samsung will incorporate this technology in its Galaxy S24 series.

However, it is yet to be clarified whether this feature will be available on all models in the Galaxy S24 series, or if it will be limited only to the Galaxy S24 Ultra.

This feature was first introduced in Apple’s iPhone 14 series in 2022, and it is also available on the iPhone 15. The Emergency SOS via Satellite feature on the iPhone allows users to send their current location and answer a few questions about the situation to a relay center. The specialists at the center then contact emergency services on behalf of the user.

Since its launch on the iPhone, this feature has proven to be highly beneficial in rescuing individuals from dangerous situations. In fact, in August, it helped a severely injured driver by alerting first responders and contacting the driver’s emergency contacts.

The accident occurred in Grey Highlands, Ontario, on August 5, when driver Hannah Ralph’s iPhone contacted emergency responders and her friend, Grace Workman-Porecki.

The integration of satellite connectivity for emergency services in the Galaxy S24 series is a significant step in ensuring the safety and well-being of users. Samsung is expected to roll out this feature early next year.
