Richard Byrne Lists .4 Million Oceanfront Retreat in Wrightsville Beach

Richard Byrne, a veteran telecommunications and wireless executive, is selling his oceanfront retreat in Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina for .4 million. If it sells at that price, it would set a record for the area. Byrne purchased the oceanfront lot on South Lumina Drive in 2017 for .6 million and built a Hamptons-inspired residence with the help of architect Cothran Harris and Jim Murray of Murray Construction.

The cedar-shingled structure, completed in 2020, spans almost 7,000 square feet and features eight bedrooms and ten baths. The interior showcases refined yet casual living spaces with reclaimed wood floors, designer lighting, and walls of glass that offer stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean. The upper-level living room includes a cozy fireplace and panoramic ocean views.

Notable amenities of the home include an elevator to all three levels, four HVAC systems with seven zones, a generator, automated irrigation system, and a two-car garage that can accommodate up to four vehicles. There is also an additional garage used for storing beach necessities, topped by a guest suite with its own bedroom, bathroom, and living area.

Situated on a third of an acre on a secluded one-way street, the inverted floor plan centers around an open-concept great room that encompasses the fireside living room, dining area, and adjacent kitchen. The kitchen is equipped with custom cabinetry, concrete and marble countertops, an eat-in island, and a Thermador appliance package.

The middle floor houses the remaining bedrooms and an additional living room, while the lower level features a game room that opens to a covered patio for al fresco lounging and entertaining. The back of the property boasts a sprawling grassy lawn with a gas fire pit and private access to 80 feet of beach frontage.

Richard Byrne retired in 2018 after cofounding TowerCo, a cellphone tower company in Raleigh, North Carolina. Under his leadership, the company structured four different holding companies that were sold at varying prices. Byrne is selling his Wrightsville Beach retreat due to the high demand in the Wilmington/Wrightsville Beach housing market and some personal lifestyle changes.

The listing is represented by Jessica Pirone and Rebecca Dawson of the Full Circle Group at Nest Realty.
