Reliance Jio Launches ‘JioSpaceFiber’ Satellite Broadband Service

Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd, India’s leading telecommunications provider, has introduced ‘JioSpaceFiber,’ the nation’s first satellite-driven giga fiber service. This groundbreaking initiative aims to extend high-speed internet access to underserved and remote regions in India.

JioSpaceFiber successfully connected four distant locations in Gujarat, Chattisgarh, Odisha, and Assam during the India Mobile Congress. This connectivity is expected to bring millions of homes and businesses online, many of which will experience broadband internet for the first time.

Akash Ambani, the chairman of Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd, envisions JioSpaceFiber as a means to provide every Indian with the opportunity to participate in a digital society. The service offers gigabit-level access to governmental, educational, health, and entertainment services online.

To enhance the availability of Jio True5G in remote areas, Jio has collaborated with SES, a global satellite operator. Through this partnership, Jio gains access to SES’s O3b and O3b mPOWER satellites, enabling the provision of reliable and scalable broadband at competitive rates across India.

Mukesh Ambani, the chairman of Reliance Jio, revealed during the India Mobile Congress that Jio has deployed a 5G cell every 10 seconds, installing over 10 lakh 5G cells across all 22 circles of India. Jio has contributed to 85% of the overall 5G capacity in the country and provides one of the fastest 5G internet speeds globally.

With its comprehensive 5G infrastructure, including JioFiber and JioAirFiber, Jio aims to provide 5G access to over 200 million unconnected homes and premises. This ambitious endeavor positions India to become the broadband capital of the world, as it already ranks among the top three 5G-enabled nations with over 125 million 5G users.
