Orbex, a satellite launcher based in Forres Enterprise Park, participated in the ‘Space for Everyone’ event in Aberdeen. The event aimed to showcase the UK’s space industry and career opportunities. Orbex had a stall at the event where they provided insights into rocket-building, spaceflight activities, educational resources, and information about their operations.

During the event, Orbex CEO, Martin Coates, reported that his team distributed 1250 activity books to children and adults and engaged in conversations with thousands of attendees. The event was a success in terms of engaging with individuals who are passionate about space, rockets, and spaceports. Coates expressed hope that their presence at the event inspired young minds to further explore space and consider a career in the space industry.

In addition to Orbex, the Aberdeen Science Centre also participated in the event by displaying space-related items, such as a small satellite, a piece of the Moon, and 4D space cards featuring images of the solar system, rockets, and rovers. They also showcased local satellite photos for people to match to different locations. The ASC team conducted interactive activities, including designing paper rockets, using gyro wheels, and infrared cameras.

Orbex also highlighted the job opportunities available in Forres, including positions for design, structural, and software engineers, as well as lawyers, commercial managers, and funding managers. The UK Space Agency also had cards on display showcasing various current and future job opportunities in the space industry.

Meanwhile, Orbex is diligently preparing for its first launch. They are finalizing testing of the rocket and the construction of the Sutherland Spaceport. More information about careers in the space industry can be found on the Spaceperson website.
