North Korea Potential Launch of Spy Satellite in Late August or Early September

North Korea may be preparing to launch another spy satellite at the end of August or early September, according to a South Korean lawmaker. The country’s intelligence agency reportedly provided this information.

In May, North Korea attempted to launch its first military satellite, but the mission ended in failure. However, the reclusive state has expressed its determination to place another satellite into orbit.

Yoo Sang-bum, a member of the South Korean parliament, disclosed that if North Korea managed to fix the defects that caused the previous failure, there is a chance they would launch the satellite to celebrate the country’s founding anniversary on September 9.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has publicly stated his intention to conduct a launch during the second half of this year. Additionally, North Korea is reportedly preparing for military actions, including the potential launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile. These actions are believed to be a response to the upcoming three-way summit between the United States, South Korea, and Japan, as well as joint U.S.-South Korea drills.

U.S. President Joe Biden is scheduled to hold a summit with South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida at Camp David on Friday.
