North Korea Plans Another Spy Satellite Launch in August or September

According to a South Korean lawmaker, North Korea is expected to conduct another spy satellite launch at the end of August or early September. The country’s intelligence agency has provided this information, stating that despite the failure of their first military satellite launch in May, North Korea remains determined to put another satellite into orbit.

Yoo Sang-bum, a member of the South Korean parliament, revealed this news after a meeting with the chief of the country’s intelligence agency. If North Korea manages to address the defects from their previous attempt, there is a chance they will launch the satellite to coincide with the country’s founding anniversary on September 9th.

It is noteworthy that North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has prioritized a launch during the second half of this year. In addition to the satellite launch, North Korea is also preparing for military actions, such as potentially launching an intercontinental ballistic missile. These actions would serve as a protest against the upcoming three-way summit between the United States, South Korea, and Japan, as well as the joint military drills between the US and South Korea.

This development occurs as US President Joe Biden plans to hold a summit at Camp David on Friday, meeting with South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida. The discussions during the summit will likely address the regional security challenges posed by North Korea and their nuclear weapons program.

As tensions continue to rise in the region, the international community will closely monitor North Korea’s actions and the potential launch of their spy satellite.
