Keysight Technologies Partners with MediaTek to Evaluate 5G Modem Technology

Keysight Technologies, Inc. (KEYS) has teamed up with MediaTek to assess the capabilities of MediaTek’s 5G modem technology in supporting 5G New Radio (NR) and Internet of Things (IoT) systems. To create a realistic testing environment, Keysight utilized advanced 5G network technology along with state-of-the-art hardware and software. This approach allows for a comprehensive performance assessment of both terrestrial and non-terrestrial infrastructure, including 5G non-terrestrial network (NTN) devices.

Non-terrestrial networks (NTNs) are crucial for expanding network connectivity in remote or sparsely populated areas where terrestrial networks are lacking or costly to build. Additionally, NTNs provide a solution for areas susceptible to natural disasters. By collaborating with MediaTek, Keysight’s validation efforts will accelerate the development of commercial satellite communications and support digitalization initiatives in rural areas.

Keysight utilized the S8711A UXM 5G Test Application and S8820A PROPSIM FS16 Channel Emulation Toolset for the testing procedure. The UXM 5G Test Application is an interactive, real-time testing tool that covers the entire chipset and device development process. It allows for the establishment of an NTN data call connection and evaluation of mobile networks for 5G NR and IoT technologies.

To accurately simulate various communication scenarios, such as ground-to-satellite, satellite-to-ground, and ground-to-ground satellite links, Keysight constructed a test environment that combines terrestrial and space simulations. The evaluation adheres to the 3rd Generation Partnership Project’s Release 17 standards, specifically designed for NTNs.

Keysight is experiencing strong growth in the industry, with solid adoption of its electronic design and test solutions. As electronic devices become increasingly important in IoT services, wireless devices, data centers, and 5G technologies, the demand for electronics testing equipment has also risen. Keysight’s robust 5G portfolio, including its 5G product design validation solutions, allows telecom and semiconductor companies to accelerate their 5G initiatives.

In addition to its strength in the 5G domain, Keysight’s efforts in emerging growth markets like IoT and high-speed data centers contribute to its overall success. Despite a decline in shares over the past year, Keysight remains a key player in the industry.
