Jio SpaceFiber: Bringing High-Speed Broadband to Remote Locations in India

Reliance Jio, in partnership with SES, has launched Jio SpaceFiber, a satellite-based GigaFiber service that aims to provide high-speed broadband to previously inaccessible areas in India. The service was showcased at the India Mobile Congress 2023 in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Jio SpaceFiber uses medium earth orbit (MEO) satellite technology provided by SES, making it the only MEO constellation capable of delivering unique Gigabit, fiber-like services from space. The goal is to expand the reach of broadband services across the country, offering affordable prices to consumers.

Currently, Jio SpaceFiber is available in four remote locations in India – Gir in Gujarat, Korba in Chattisgarh, Nabrangpur in Odisha, and ONGC-Jorhat in Assam. However, the service aims to cover the length and breadth of the country in the future.

Akash Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited, stated that Jio SpaceFiber will enable millions of homes and businesses to experience broadband internet for the first time. The service will provide gigabit access to online government, education, health, and entertainment services, allowing everyone to fully participate in the digital society.

Reliance Jio already offers high-speed broadband fixed line and wireless services to over 450 million Indian consumers. Jio SpaceFiber is an addition to its premier lineup of broadband services, which includes JioFiber and JioAirFiber. With Jio, consumers and businesses have access to reliable, low-latency, and high-speed internet and entertainment services, regardless of their location.

In addition to providing broadband access, the satellite network will also support additional capacity for mobile backhaul, enhancing the availability and scale of Jio True5G in remote parts of India.

Jio’s partnership with SES allows it to access the latest MEO satellite technology, offering scalable and affordable broadband services across India. With a combination of SES’s O3b and new O3b mPOWER satellites, Jio has game-changing technology that guarantees reliability and service flexibility.

Jio SpaceFiber is a significant step towards bridging the digital divide in India, bringing high-speed broadband to remote locations and enabling access to digital services for all.
