Israel Cuts Ties with Elon Musk’s Starlink Following Offer to Restore Internet in Gaza

Elon Musk’s recent offer to assist in restoring internet connectivity in war-torn Gaza has not been well-received by Israel. In response, the Israeli government has reportedly severed all ties with Musk’s satellite communication company, Starlink.

Prominent American political streamer, Jackson Hinkle, shared Israel’s response to Musk’s announcement on social media. He quoted Israeli authorities as stating, “We will use ALL MEANS to FIGHT this,” in reference to Musk’s plan to connect Starlink with humanitarian aid groups in Gaza.

Elon Musk had publicly declared that Starlink would support connectivity to internationally recognized aid organizations in Gaza. This statement was made in response to US Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s remark about the unacceptable nature of cutting off communications in Gaza.

It is worth noting that Starlink, which is operated by Musk’s SpaceX, was previously deployed in Ukraine following Russia’s invasion in February 2022. This suggests that Musk’s offer to assist in Gaza is not an isolated incident but rather a continuation of his commitment to providing satellite-based communication in conflict-affected areas.

In the midst of these developments, Israel has escalated its ground operations in Gaza, claiming that they have entered the next stage of their conflict with Hamas. As part of these operations, Israeli military aircraft have conducted intense nighttime airstrikes, targeting approximately 150 underground facilities in northern Gaza.

The Israeli government’s decision to cut ties with Starlink indicates their opposition to Musk’s involvement in providing internet connectivity to Gaza. This move raises questions about the impact on humanitarian aid organizations and the population in Gaza who rely on internet access for communication and access to vital services.

While tensions between Musk and Israel persist, the situation in Gaza remains dire, with the need for connectivity and communication channels critical for aid efforts and daily life in the war-stricken region.
