Iran’s Tolou-3 Satellite to be Launched by 2024

Iran’s Tolou-3 imaging satellite is set to be launched by the end of the Iranian year, according to Rear Admiral Amir Rastegari, head of the Electronic Industries Organization. The satellite, commissioned by the Iranian Space Agency and manufactured by Iran Electronics Industries, was unveiled in February 2023.

The Tolou-3 satellite is equipped with the capability to capture black-and-white images with a spatial resolution of five meters. Additionally, it has a resolution of 10 meters in color mode. The satellite will rely heavily on equipment and instruments produced by Iranian knowledge-intensive companies.

It is expected that the Tolou-3 satellite will be placed in orbit approximately 500 kilometers above the Earth. This launch follows Iran’s previous successful satellite launches, such as the Omid satellite in 2009 and the Rasad satellite in 2011. In 2012, the Islamic Republic achieved another milestone by launching its third indigenous satellite, Navid, into orbit.

With the upcoming launch of Tolou-3, Iran continues to advance its capabilities in space technology and satellite imaging. The country’s commitment to developing its space program marks an important milestone in its scientific and technological pursuits.
