Iran’s Ministry of Information and Communication Technology Collaborates with SpaceX for Satellite Internet Services

Iran’s Ministry of Information and Communication Technology recently announced a collaboration with American aerospace company SpaceX to provide satellite internet services in the Islamic Republic of Iran. The decision was made during a meeting of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

SpaceX operates Starlink, a satellite internet constellation that offers coverage to more than 60 countries. The statement from the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology revealed that during the ITU meeting, SpaceX and the relevant countries were required to conform to Iran’s internal rules and obtain a license to operate in the country through the regulatory authorities.

This collaboration marks an important step towards the legal use of Starlink services in Iran. With the necessary authorization, the people of Iran will be able to access satellite internet services provided by Starlink in a lawful manner.

Satellite internet services have gained significant importance in recent years, particularly in areas with limited or no access to traditional internet infrastructure. These services leverage satellite technology to provide reliable connectivity, bridging the digital divide and enabling individuals and communities to stay connected and access online resources.

The partnership between Iran’s Ministry of Information and Communication Technology and SpaceX demonstrates the growing recognition of satellite internet as a crucial tool in expanding digital connectivity. By embracing this technology, Iran aims to enhance internet accessibility and improve communication capabilities for its citizens.
