ISRO Gears Up for Sun Mission Following Successful Moon Landing

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is preparing for its upcoming mission to the Sun after the recent successful moon landing. ISRO Chairman S. Somanath announced that the Aditya-L1 satellite for the Sun mission will be launched in the first week of September.

The Aditya-L1 spacecraft, India’s first space-based observatory to study the Sun, will travel approximately 1.5 million kilometers over 120 days to reach its destination and study the solar atmosphere. It will be placed into a halo orbit around the first Lagrange point, L1, of the Sun-Earth system, which offers the advantage of continuous viewing of the Sun without occultation or eclipses.

The Aditya-L1 satellite will be carried by the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV). Meanwhile, ISRO is also preparing for the Gaganyaan abort mission demonstration, which is part of India’s human space mission. This mission will take place in late September or early October this year.

In addition to these missions, ISRO has plans to orbit the INSAT 3DS satellite using the GSLV rocket, as well as the Anwesha satellite and XPoSAT, a X-ray Polarimeter Satellite. The latter is a dedicated polarimetry mission aimed at studying the dynamics of bright astronomical X-ray sources in extreme conditions.

The launch of the Radar Imaging Satellite (RISAT-1B) aboard the PSLV rocket is scheduled for 2023. ISRO also has plans to orbit two IDRSS (Indian Data Relay Satellite System) satellites.

Alongside these missions, ISRO will be testing various systems for its LVM3 rocket in preparation for the maiden human space mission. Additionally, a flight to Venus, known as the Venus Mission, is scheduled for 2024.

ISRO expressed its excitement on Twitter, announcing the success of the Chandrayaan-3 Mission and congratulating India on the achievement.
