Govt School Students in Bengaluru Build Satellite Set to Launch in March 2024

Around 150 students from government schools in Karnataka have been involved in the construction of a satellite named ‘Puneeth Rajkumar’ that is expected to launch in March 2024. The information was provided by the state’s Minister of Science and Technology, N.S. Boseraju. The progress of the satellite project was discussed by the Minister at a meeting held on Thursday in Bengaluru, along with members of the Indian Technology Congress Association (ITCA).

The Indian Technology Congress forum has been promoting science and technology in Karnataka through the Science and Technology Society and Karnataka State Science and Technology Council. They have been closely monitoring the Puneeth Rajkumar satellite project, which has been built by the school children.

The students have been given training on CubeSat subsystems. They are currently working on upgrading the second payload, named “Pelod” within the Puneeth satellite. According to the Minister, the necessary modifications will be implemented after obtaining the required approvals. The ITCA, under the guidance of the Minister, is coordinating with ISRO to ensure smooth integration and implementation of the project.

The ITCA has trained students in the assembly, integration, and testing of 75 satellites. Out of these, one satellite called “Appu” has been built by government school students. The agreement between ITCA and the Karnataka government has facilitated this initiative.

Overall, the project aims to generate interest among students in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) subjects. The construction and launch of these satellites are providing practical hands-on experience to the students and nurturing their interest in STEM fields. With the Puneeth Rajkumar satellite set to launch in March 2024, this project is proving to be a great opportunity for government school students to have exposure to space technology.
