Devastation in Northern Gaza Visible in Satellite Images

Apartment buildings in northern Gaza lie crumpled, while neighborhoods are left in ruins and the terrain transformed into a moonscape. Recent satellite images taken before and after Israeli airstrikes, following raids carried out by Hamas militants on October 7, clearly show the extent of the destruction.

Satellite images, taken by Maxar Technologies, reveal the aftermath of the airstrikes in the Izbat Beit Hanoun neighborhood. Four- and five-story buildings are seen in various states of collapse, with large portions missing or broken in half, and two large complexes reduced to rubble. The Al Karameh neighborhood also shows a widespread pattern of destruction, visible in the ash-colored landscape.

In Beit Hanoun, tightly packed streets are obliterated, with only a rare white structure standing out in the gray wasteland. The airstrikes have been ongoing, causing immense damage, but the full extent is yet unknown.

The conflict between Israel and Palestine has resulted in thousands of airstrikes and has claimed many lives. Since the fighting erupted, Palestinian health officials estimate that over 7,000 people in Gaza have been killed. The situation remains tense, with continued airstrikes taking place around the clock.

These satellite images offer a glimpse into the devastation, particularly in the hard-hit northern Gaza Strip. The scale of destruction is evident, illustrating the impact of the ongoing conflict on the lives and infrastructure of the region.
