Capella Federal, a subsidiary of Capella Space, has been awarded the Proliferated Low Earth Orbit Satellite-Based Services (PLEO) contract by the U.S. Space Systems Command (SSC). This contract allows Capella to collaborate more rapidly with the U.S. Space Force in order to enhance access to global 24/7, all-weather imagery for crucial missions.

This award positions Capella as one of the pioneering commercial earth observation companies working with a new government commercial satellite services procurement model. By leveraging advanced commercial technologies, this model aims to strengthen the U.S.’s resilience in space. The contract will be in effect for five years, from July 2023 to July 2028, with an option for a five-year extension.

Capella Space’s CEO and founder, Payam Banazadeh, expressed excitement about expanding their collaboration with the U.S. government. As the first American company to own and operate a commercial Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) constellation, Capella aims to provide timely, high-resolution SAR data to support U.S. Space Force missions through its growing constellation.

The contract was awarded by the Commercial Satellite Communications Office (CSCO), which operates as a central marketplace for SATCOM services under the U.S. Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA). CSCO is a part of the Space Systems Command (SSC), a field command of the U.S. Space Force.

Capella Federal, a subsidiary of Capella Space, offers expanded access to Capella’s SAR imagery to U.S. government and defense agency customers. It ensures increased security and reliable on-demand delivery of SAR imagery tailored specifically to meet the security and facility clearance needs of these customers.
