AT&T has announced the expansion of its wireless internet service, AT&T Air, to 16 cities. Initially available to a select group of eligible customers, the service is now accessible to customers in the following cities: Chicago, Cincinnati, Detroit, Flint-Saginaw-Bay City, MI, Harrisburg-Lancaster-Lebanon, PA, Hartford-New Haven, CT, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Minneapolis-St. Paul, MN, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Phoenix (Prescott), Portland, OR; Salt Lake City, Seattle-Tacoma, and Tampa-St. Petersburg (Sarasota).

AT&T Air utilizes the same 5G network as the company’s cell phones, delivering download speeds ranging from 40-140 Mbps. The service provides faster speeds compared to the DSL service that AT&T is gradually phasing out. However, the actual speed achieved depends on the 5G coverage in each specific area.

One advantage of AT&T Air over DSL is that there are no data caps, according to AT&T. The service offers a simple self-installation process that can be completed in under 15 minutes. Customers can use the “Smart Home Manager” app to find the ideal placement for optimal Wi-Fi coverage, and Wi-Fi extenders are also available.

The monthly price for AT&T Air is , competitive with similar offerings from other providers. The service does not require a contract, and AT&T promises that there will not be a price increase after the first 12 months. Qualified customers can save an additional per month through the Affordable Connectivity Act, in which AT&T participates.
