TikTok User and Teacher Buys Starlink Device for Rural School in Sarawak

A TikTok user and teacher named Aekholic, also known as @y.ao_75, has purchased a Starlink device for his school located in a rural area of Sarawak, Malaysia. He made the journey from Miri to Lapok to collect the device, and then drove for 5 hours to reach Long Siut, Selungo. From there, he had to take a 2-hour boat ride to Long Sait in Ulu Baram, where his school is located. Aekholic documented his journey on TikTok, expressing his gratitude towards Elon Musk and Starlink for the opportunity to provide internet access to his students.

Upon reaching his school, Aekholic encountered a small issue with the Starlink device not working. He discovered that the order number on the package and the order summary on his phone did not match, making him concerned that he had received the wrong device. However, he reached out to Starlink and MCMC Sarawak for assistance, and the issue was resolved. Aekholic expressed his happiness that the device ultimately worked as intended and conducted an internet speed test, which recorded speeds of 127 Mbps download, 12 Mbps upload, and 166 ms latency.

The Malaysian government, including the Minister of Communications and Digital, Fahmi Fadzil, has been utilizing satellite internet services like Starlink as a temporary solution for areas with limited internet access while simultaneously working on long-term solutions. In addition to Starlink, there are three other operational satellite internet service providers in Malaysia, namely CONNECTme NOW, Maxis, and possibly NTvsat.

It is heartwarming to see individuals like Aekholic taking the initiative to bring internet access to rural areas and provide better educational opportunities for students. Access to the internet is crucial for learning and development in the digital age.
