Mexican IT services specialist Global HITSS, a subsidiary of a leading telecommunications provider in Latin America, is committed to developing a digital society by integrating IT technologies with other digital amenities and general communications. One of its goals is to create a culture of energy conservation, but several challenges prevented the company from accurately measuring its energy consumption.
During the last ten years, there was no technological product available that could provide automatic measurements of electricity, water, and gas consumption in real-time while storing a high volume of data. All billing information was captured manually, leading to potential human error and hindering analysis to identify areas of failure or reduction.
To overcome these challenges, Global HITSS embarked on an automation journey to develop an energy efficiency solution that could target ineffective spots, identify new opportunities, and control, measure, and analyze energy consumption. By implementing real-time analytics, the company aimed to reduce its carbon footprint.
As a subsidiary of América Móvil, a conglomerate based in Mexico City with a presence in 24 countries, Global HITSS has gained a reputation as one of Latin America’s premier consulting services. To maintain this position, the company needed to discard manual systems and integrate its diverse data streams into a single software platform that could accurately record emissions, energy, and cost reduction strategies.
To achieve this, Global HITSS enlisted the help of multinational enterprise resource planning (ERP) software leader SAP. SAP’s Business Technology Platform (BTP) was used to ingest, process, and analyze large flows of data, including monthly energy invoices and sensor information. The solution integrated Global HITSS’ internal systems reliably and securely, enabling real-time analytics to improve billing processes, predictive maintenance, and decision-making at all levels of the organization.
Since the deployment of the platform in May 2022, Global HITSS has achieved significant energy savings. The company has reduced energy consumption by 14%, water consumption by 9%, and natural gas consumption by 5%. The real-time consumption data has provided employees with more reliable information for making precise decisions, leading to faster response times and reduced administrative workload.
With the automation of data collection and other clerical tasks, Global HITSS has been able to focus on reducing its carbon footprint, improving the quality of life and safety, conceptualizing new technologies, and fostering innovation. The company was recognized as a finalist at the 2023 SAP Innovation Awards for its transformative platform, which showcases organizations that use SAP solutions to drive change in both business and society.
