Spire Global Awarded Space Services Contract by GHGSat to Monitor Greenhouse Gas Emissions

Spire Global, Inc. (NYSE: SPIR), a leading provider of space-based data, analytics, and space services, has been awarded a Space Services contract by GHGSat, the global leader in high-resolution greenhouse gas monitoring from space. The agreement involves the construction, launch, and operation of four additional 16U satellites equipped with GHGSat payloads to monitor greenhouse gas emissions. This expands upon Spire’s previous agreement with GHGSat for the launch of three 16U satellites by the end of 2023.

Spire Space Services offers organizations the opportunity to utilize the company’s existing infrastructure to establish a presence in space and rapidly scale their own satellite constellation. With its comprehensive capabilities in development, manufacturing, launch, and operations, Spire enables businesses to focus on their mission and services while Spire handles the deployment of their payloads into space efficiently and cost-effectively.

The importance of monitoring greenhouse gas emissions stems from the urgent need to address climate change and its impact on human well-being and the environment. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change emphasizes the need for significant measures in all sectors to reduce emissions and secure a sustainable future. Access to accurate and comprehensive data on emissions is crucial for governments and industries to take informed action towards achieving net-zero goals.

The deployment of the four 16U satellites will significantly enhance GHGSat’s capacity for global emissions monitoring and measurement. The new payloads will provide valuable data on emissions from industries such as oil and gas, coal mining, waste management, and agriculture.

Stephane Germain, CEO of GHGSat, acknowledges the superior emissions intelligence provided by GHGSat and highlights the importance of expanding the satellite services agreement with Spire. This allows GHGSat to focus on delivering exceptional performance to their customers while relying on Spire for satellite manufacturing and operations.

The launch of the four 16U satellites is planned for no earlier than 2024.
