When Apple launched the iPhone 14 devices, they introduced the life-saving Emergency SOS via Satellite feature, allowing users to contact emergency services even without cellular service. Now, it seems that Samsung’s upcoming flagship phones will feature a similar capability.

Park Yong-in, CEO of Samsung’s System LSI division, confirmed the company’s plans to support satellite services starting next year. Although he didn’t mention the Galaxy S24 specifically, it is highly likely that the entire Galaxy S24 lineup will benefit from this feature.

Samsung is expected to unveil the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24 Plus, and Galaxy S24 Ultra during an Unpacked event in January 2024. The inclusion of a satellite communications feature in the specification sheet appears increasingly probable.

Apple’s implementation of the emergency satellite feature has already helped save lives, enabling people in remote areas without cellular network access to seek help. The iPhone 15 lineup expanded the functionality to include roadside assistance beyond emergency situations.

While other companies like Huawei have also incorporated satellite-based features, Samsung’s adoption of this technology will make it the largest Android phone manufacturer to offer such capabilities if the Galaxy S24 series includes it. It is worth noting that this feature will likely be used exclusively for emergency situations rather than regular communication.
