Low-Income Households Provided with Affordable Broadband Access

Community Development Support Association (CDSA) is partnering with SWA Connect to ensure that low-income households have affordable access to broadband for work, education, healthcare, and other needs. This program aims to assist millions of low-income households across the country by providing them with an Android tablet and broadband 4G LTE mobile internet.

To qualify for this program, individuals must have a household income below 200% of the federal poverty line or be recipients of government benefits such as SNAP, Medicaid, SSI, WIC, Pell Grant, or free and reduced-price lunch at school. The application process is straightforward, and interested individuals can visit the CDSA website at cdsa.org to access the free internet and tablet program and fill out the necessary information.

CDSA has already distributed 100 tablets and aims to distribute 500 more as part of this initiative. For those who do not have access to a computer, they can visit the Public Library of Enid and Garfield, where computers with internet are available. Alternatively, they can visit the CDSA office at 114 S. Independence, where tablets are delivered, and recipients are notified upon arrival.

SWA Connect is an authorized provider of the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP), a government assistance program administered by the FCC. The ACP replaced the old Emergency Broadband Benefit (EBB) program on December 31, 2021. The ACP aims to ensure that everyone has access to the internet, and it offers similar benefits as the previous EBB program.

Ezzell, the executive director of CDSA, emphasizes that this program is an excellent opportunity for people to stay connected to the world and access valuable resources, particularly in rural communities. It’s important to note that households are limited to one monthly service discount and one device discount.

By making broadband access more affordable for low-income households, this program strives to bridge the digital divide and provide equal opportunities for all.
