Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development Collaborates with Etisalat for Industry 4.0 Development

The Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development (ADDED) has joined hands with Etisalat’s enterprise division, known as e&, to promote Industry 4.0 advancements in the region. With a specific focus on areas such as internet of things (IoT), cloud computing, artificial intelligence (AI), and cybersecurity, both organizations have signed a memorandum of understanding to facilitate the development of digital technology for smart and sustainable manufacturing.

In accordance with the Abu Dhabi Industrial Strategy (ADIS), the UAE government’s initiative to strengthen the local Industry 4.0 economy, the agreement was announced during a smart manufacturing workshop organized by the government’s industrial development bureau (IDB). Attended by 100 industrial stakeholders, predominantly from the SME segment of the manufacturing sector, the workshop aimed to drive the adoption of smart manufacturing practices.

ADDED and e& will establish a joint working group to ensure effective communication and cooperation. Their collaboration will involve the creation of joint white papers and workshops to enhance research and knowledge exchange, as well as promote awareness of sustainable manufacturing. Additionally, the two parties will explore opportunities for providing digital solutions to manufacturing operations.

To support the ADIS project, ADDED and e& will offer enterprise platforms, services, and collaboration opportunities to drive the adoption of Industry 4.0 practices. This includes establishing specialized Industry 4.0 centers, creating quality Industry 4.0 jobs, and enhancing trade with global markets. These initiatives seek to position Abu Dhabi as a competitive industrial hub in the region.

Arafat Al Yafei, executive director in the IDB, expressed his satisfaction with the collaboration, stating that it would foster a favorable environment for the industrial sector in Abu Dhabi to transition to smart manufacturing and contribute to sustainability. He emphasized the objectives of the ADIS, which aim to increase investment in the industrial sector, generate high-quality jobs, and enhance Abu Dhabi’s trade relationships with global markets.

Alberto Araque, the chief executive for the enterprise IoT unit at e&, expressed his excitement about collaborating with ADDED to lead the Industry 4.0 revolution and promote sustainable manufacturing. He described it as a significant milestone in driving innovation and digitalization in the UAE, emphasizing their commitment to empowering businesses and following environmentally responsible practices in the digital era.
