AT&T Expands Availability of Internet Air Plan

AT&T is expanding the availability of its Internet Air plan, which uses 5G to beam Wi-Fi into homes. The plan is priced at per month ( without autopay) and offers download speeds of 40 to 140Mbps. It comes with no overage fees, equipment costs, or annual contracts.

To connect to the Internet Air plan, AT&T provides customers with its All-Fi Hub, a 5G fixed wireless access receiver. The plan initially launched in Los Angeles, Pennsylvania, and Ohio, but is now being rolled out to additional cities including Detroit, Cincinnati, Hartford, Salt Lake City, Tampa, Seattle, and others.

AT&T will charge up to per month extra for up to five Wi-Fi extenders. However, customers with an eligible wireless service with AT&T can access the Internet Air plan for a reduced price of per month.

Other carriers such as Verizon and T-Mobile already offer their own 5G home internet plans. Verizon’s basic plan costs (or without autopay), while T-Mobile’s plan is similarly priced at with automatic payments.

While the idea of using mobile data to power the internet throughout the house may sound appealing, it may not be the most efficient option. In a review of T-Mobile’s 5G Home Internet service, it was found to struggle with video streaming, multiplayer games, and cloud backups on a daily basis due to a weak cellular signal.

The reliability and performance of 5G home internet largely depend on the availability and strength of cell service in the area. Therefore, potential customers need to consider the quality of cell service in their location before subscribing to a 5G home internet plan.
