Samsung to Introduce Satellite Connectivity in the Galaxy S24

Samsung will be incorporating satellite features into its upcoming flagship phone, the Galaxy S24. This move comes after Apple introduced satellite connectivity with the iPhone 14 last year. The inclusion of satellite connectivity allows users to reach out to emergency services in situations where there is no cellular or WiFi signal available.

The emergency satellite feature has proven to be highly valuable, as it has assisted in rescuing individuals trapped in dangerous situations. For example, it aided in the rescue of a family trapped during the recent fires in Maui.

Following Apple’s lead, smartphone makers, including Samsung, have been working with Google to bring a similar feature to Android devices. Park Yong from Samsung confirmed that the satellite feature would be integrated into the Galaxy S24. However, further details on its functionality were not provided.

While Apple’s Emergency SOS feature enables users to relay important information to emergency services, Samsung has reportedly been working on expanding the capabilities of satellite connectivity. In addition to emergency services, Samsung aims to allow users to send and receive messages of any kind via satellite.

In February of this year, Samsung announced their development of modem technology that enables satellite communication. This indicates their commitment to provide reliable satellite connectivity to users.

Apart from developing the necessary technology, Samsung will also need to partner with a satellite communications provider to power this feature. The collaboration with a reliable provider will ensure seamless satellite connectivity for Galaxy S24 users.

With the introduction of satellite connectivity, Samsung is further enhancing the capabilities of their flagship phone, providing users with the means to stay connected even in remote regions without traditional cellular or WiFi service.
