Philips Hue to Launch Smart Home Cameras Soon

Philips Hue is preparing to release its first smart home cameras with an expected starting price of around 0. Two of the four new cameras have been approved by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and images of the devices have been revealed. The pictures provided in the FCC filings may not be the final designs of the cameras.

The cameras include magnets for connecting to mounts and stands, although these accessories are not shown in the images. One of the cameras is a wired version, while the other is a wireless camera with a built-in battery. Both devices feature WiFi, Bluetooth, and ZigBee connectivity. Bluetooth will likely be used for setup, while WiFi will be used for video transmission.

It is still unclear whether the upcoming Hue cameras will have HomeKit or HomeKit Secure Video support. The Hue bridge already supports HomeKit, so there is hope for compatibility. The expected prices for the cameras range from €199 to €349, which are considered to be premium prices in a competitive market.

Eric Rondolat, the CEO of Signify (the parent company of Philips Hue), has mentioned that the new cameras will have end-to-end encryption as a unique feature. However, other cameras with HomeKit Secure Video also offer this feature at a lower price.

The launch of the Philips Hue smart cameras is expected in the next two weeks. It remains to be seen whether customers will be willing to pay a premium for these devices or if they will opt for other brands.
