Peachtree Corners Boosts 5G Electrification with Siemens Partnership

Peachtree Corners, one of the first smart cities in the US, has enhanced its ability to maintain device connectivity within its infrastructure with the help of Siemens. The smart city consortium has partnered with Siemens, a leading EV charging solutions provider, to bring expertise in 5G electrification using T-Mobile’s 5G network.

Located in the Metro Atlanta region’s “Silicon Orchard,” Peachtree Corners is part of the Curiosity Lab ecosystem. The city is known for its municipality of over 45,000 residents and jobs, as well as an innovation hub that houses disruptive technology companies.

Peachtree Corners prides itself on being the first US smart city powered by 5G and city-owned connected infrastructure. It has also deployed a full cellular vehicle-to-everything (C-V2X) system in its “city street of the future.” The city’s infrastructure serves as a model for public-private collaboration in creating a better future for both society and business.

The city of Peachtree Corners aims to develop future IoT and sustainable technologies. It has already achieved significant milestones, including the world’s first deployment of teleoperated e-scooters and the use of fully autonomous shuttles by residents. Additionally, the city boasts a solar roadway and the largest electric vehicle fast-charging hub in the region.

Siemens, with its eMobility R&D hub and North American headquarters located in Peachtree Corners, is the city’s largest employer. The company is actively supporting the community by deploying six EV chargers. These chargers contribute to Peachtree Corners having the largest EV charging hub outside of Metro Atlanta.

By deploying advanced charging stations, Peachtree Corners will be able to continuously evaluate Siemens’ 5G charging infrastructure as community members use the chargers. This partnership aims to embrace an electrified future and improve EV infrastructure.

John DeBoer, head of Siemens eMobility North America, expressed enthusiasm for supporting Peachtree Corners and joining the Curiosity Lab ecosystem along with other partners. Brian Johnson, city manager of Peachtree Corners, highlighted the city’s commitment to embracing technology and thanked Siemens for its ongoing support.

This partnership, along with T-Mobile’s 5G network and the real-world environment, will contribute to the continuous improvement of EV infrastructure and drive the electrification of America forward.
