OneWeb to Connect All Parts of India with Satellite Communication Service

OneWeb Satellite communication service is set to connect all parts of the country starting from next month, according to Bharti Airtel Chairman Sunil Bharti Mittal. Speaking at the India Mobile Congress 2023, Mittal announced that Airtel has already launched 5G services and has provided coverage to the entire country, including 5,000 towns, cities, and 20,000 villages.

Mittal also highlighted that Airtel, with the support of the Universal Services Obligation Fund, has been bridging the connectivity gap in rural and remote areas. He further emphasized the availability of satellite technology to connect all regions in the country. Mittal stated that the OneWeb constellation is ready to serve the globe and will be available to serve the country as well. Starting from next month, anyone located anywhere, even in remote or difficult areas, will have the ability to be connected.

OneWeb, now merged with Eutelsat, will operate under the name Eutelsat OneWeb and have its center of operations based in London. Bharti Enterprises holds the largest stake in the merged entity, with a 21.2 percent share. OneWeb, backed by Bharti Enterprises, has successfully completed its constellation of over 618 low earth orbit satellites. This achievement positions them to provide broadband internet services from space, reaching every corner of the world.

With the introduction of OneWeb’s satellite communication service, the connectivity landscape in India is set to expand further, ensuring that even the most remote areas of the country have access to broadband internet. This development aligns with the goal of bridging the digital divide and promoting digital inclusion for all.
