L&T Aims to Compete with SpaceX in Satellite Launch Operations

Indian multinational conglomerate Larsen & Toubro (L&T) is looking to challenge SpaceX in the satellite launch operations industry. L&T aims to capitalize on the growing demand for satellite launches, driven by the increasing need for communication and data services.

In July, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Centre (IN-SPACe) issued an Expression of Interest (EoI) to shortlist Indian entities experienced in the aerospace sector. The selected entities will have the opportunity to absorb the Small Satellite Launch Vehicle (SSLV) technology developed by ISRO.

L&T, with its expertise in engineering, construction, and infrastructure, is well-positioned to enter the satellite launch market. The company is known for its proficiency in executing complex projects and has successfully completed major infrastructure projects in India and abroad.

By expanding into satellite launch operations, L&T aims to compete with industry leaders like SpaceX, which has gained significant recognition for its advancements in space technology. SpaceX, founded by Elon Musk, has made significant strides with its Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy rockets and its Starlink satellite constellation.

The demand for satellite launches continues to grow as the industry seeks to meet the increasing demand for global connectivity and information services. L&T’s entry into the market could provide more options for satellite launches and contribute to the development of India’s space industry.

L&T’s entry into the satellite launch operations sector aligns with India’s goal of expanding its space capabilities and reducing its dependence on foreign launches. With the advancements in technology and the increasing interest in space exploration, the satellite launch market is poised for growth in the coming years.
