A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket is set to take flight over the Southern California coast on Monday at 11:04 p.m. The rocket will be launched from Vandenberg Space Force Base, located northwest of Santa Barbara.

Originally scheduled for launch just after midnight on Thursday, the event was postponed due to the impact of Hurricane Hilary on the recovery of the first-stage booster in the Pacific. Another launch, previously scheduled for Friday, was also canceled for the same reason.

If the skies are clear, the rocket and its exhaust plume may be visible for hundreds of miles as it flies south along the coast. The best views are usually during launches that occur just after sunset or before sunrise when the rocket reflects sunlight against the darkened sky.

The primary purpose of this mission is to deploy 21 Starlink internet satellites into low-Earth orbit. The first stage booster, which will be making its 15th flight, is expected to land on the Of Course I Still Love You droneship stationed in the Pacific Ocean.

There are four additional launch windows available, starting from 11:54 p.m. until 2:26 a.m. PT.

SpaceX already has a constellation of Starlink satellites orbiting Earth, placed there by the company’s rockets. The Starlink network aims to provide high-speed internet coverage worldwide.

When the light conditions are favorable, these satellites can be seen moving in a train-like formation across the night sky. They are most visible in the few minutes after sundown and before sunrise, when the sun is below the horizon but still able to illuminate the satellites at their high altitude.
