Albanian Government Severs Internet Access to MKO Camp

The Albanian government has taken measures to restrict the activities of the Mujahedin-e-Khalq Organization (MKO) at their Ashraf-3 camp near Tirana, the country’s capital. In an effort to clamp down on the anti-Iran terrorist group, internet access at the camp has been cut off. This move follows a series of actions taken by Albania to combat the MKO’s involvement in terrorism and cyber attacks.

In June, Albanian police raided the camp, accusing the MKO of engaging in terrorist and cyber activities against foreign institutions. During the raid, authorities seized 150 computer devices with links to terrorist acts. Tragically, clashes during the operation resulted in the death of one person and multiple injuries.

In August, Albanian police assumed control of the Ashraf-3 camp and imposed a strict curfew in the area. They have been actively working to curb the MKO’s activities and maintain security.

The MKO has a history of carrying out terrorist attacks against Iranian civilians and government officials since the Islamic Revolution in 1979. Their acts of terror have claimed the lives of approximately 12,000 Iranians out of the nearly 17,000 killed in terrorist attacks over the past four decades.

Previously recognized as a “terrorist organization” by the European Union, Canada, the United States, and Japan, the MKO was removed from the US list in 2012, followed by the EU’s delisting.

The latest action taken by the Albanian government to restrict internet access at the camp is aimed at further tightening the noose around the MKO, signaling their determination to combat terrorism and safeguard national security.
