AT&T Introduces ‘AT&T Internet Air’ Self-Install Home Wi-Fi Service

AT&T has expanded its Fixed Wireless Access internet service called “AT&T Internet Air” to a wider audience. The service is powered by AT&T’s 5G network and may also utilize its LTE technology. While it can make use of C-Band spectrum, it is not a millimeter-wave solution. The aim of AT&T Internet Air is to provide a reliable and strong connection option for customers residing in less densely populated areas.
AT&T has already introduced AT&T Internet Air to existing copper-network customers with successful results. As it expands the service, AT&T is focused on selecting locations with adequate wireless coverage and capacity to ensure a satisfying in-home experience and maintain a high-quality wireless service for its mobile users.
The new service complements AT&T’s existing fiber network and extends its internet service coverage to new areas, including parts of Los Angeles, California; Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and Harrisburg-Lancaster-Lebanon in Pennsylvania; Cincinnati, Ohio; Las Vegas, Nevada; the Phoenix/Prescott area in Arizona; Chicago, Illinois; Detroit and the Flint/Saginaw/Bay City area in Michigan; Hartford-New Haven, Connecticut; Minneapolis-St. Paul in Minnesota; Portland, Oregon; Salt Lake City, Utah; Seattle-Tacoma, Washington, and the Tampa/St. Petersburg/Sarasota areas in Florida.
Unlike T-Mobile US and Verizon, which have prioritized Fixed Wireless Access, AT&T has focused more on its fiber and mobile wireless services. AT&T executives see Fixed Wireless Access as a potential solution for limited use cases at the network edge, where deploying fiber may not be economically feasible. While AT&T recognizes the value of Fixed Wireless Access, it is not the primary focus of its broadband strategy.
AT&T highlights the speed and simplicity of its self-installation process for AT&T Internet Air. Customers can set up the service using a QR code and the AT&T Smart Home Manager app for the strongest connection. AT&T also offers Wi-Fi extenders to ensure that the FWA-powered Wi-Fi signal reaches every corner of a customer’s home. The service is priced at per month plus tax and includes benefits such as no overage fees, no price increase for the first 12 months, no equipment fees, and no annual contract. Additionally, the service qualifies for the Federal Communications Commission’s Affordable Connectivity Program, which provides financial assistance to eligible households for home broadband services.
